Burnout is becoming so common that in 2019 the World Health Organisation classified it as an occupational phenomenon and officially defined it as “a syndrome resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed”.
84% of Millennial’s say they’ve experienced burnout at their job, making them the most affected population. Burnout can impact your health, happiness, relationships and job performance, so it’s important to know what signs to look out for, and how to help overcome these feelings. People suffering from burnout usually experience the following:
Here are 4 easy tips to help prevent burnout and get your body back on track for the remainder of the year: 1- Exercise more - When your body feels better so does your mind. When we exercise the body produces endorphins, our natural painkiller and feel-good hormones. At the same time it also reduces the levels of stress hormones cortisol and adrenaline, resulting in more relaxed muscles and less general tension. 62% of people say they find exercising helpful to reduce mental stress. 2- Focus on a good nights sleep – Stress raises cortisol levels, a hormone that stimulates alertness and keeps us awake. A poor nights sleep can affect memory, judgment and mood. Having fewer than 6 hours of sleep per night is a major risk factor for burnout. 3- Start saying no – With the ability to work from home it can be easy to feel the need to respond to emails and answer calls 24/7. Don’t be afraid to set boundaries both at work and socially to avoid overexerting yourself. Dedicate specific hours in the day for work and spend your downtime doing the things you like to do and that help you feel relaxed. 4- Keep up your Chiropractic care – Chiropractic adjustments can soothe the nervous system by lessening the neurological fight or flight response that occurs when we’re stressed. This helps to relieve the associated symptoms of stress such as poor posture, tension headaches, neck pain and muscle tightness. Comments are closed.
