This Spinal Health Week (24-30 May), the team at Ballarat and District Chiropractic Centre are looking at ways to help the Ballarat community manage their low back pain.
With 70-90% of people experiencing low back pain at some point in their lives, the impact of low back pain is far reaching1. From increased time off work, impacts on activity and sport, to the decreased ability to do everyday activities like playing with the kids, low back pain can impact every facet of life. A recent survey by the Australian Chiropractors Association (ACA) looked at the 30% of the workforce now working from home and found that 40% of respondents admitted to suffering from back pain. The same survey also revealed that a third of people living with pain, including back pain, admit to having reduced movement and mobility (32.6%) which has significant impacts on work life, social life and mental health.2 Low back pain can arise from a variety of causes, whether it is sitting behind a desk or in a car, workplace injuries, sporting mishaps or large changes in activity (think a big weekend in the garden). As such, there are many ways to approach low back pain, with a personalised approach working best. We work in partnership with our patients to tailor their care accordingly, by using a variety of techniques and applying a hands-on approach to healthcare that is backed by scientific studies from around the world. We perform postural checks to see which load-bearing areas are under stress, then we assess the spine to see how it is affecting movement and discuss different ways to improve function and reduce pain. For those who wish to keep their healthy back we also suggest utilising chiropractic as a preventative healthcare option. We offer mobility stretches, exercise programs, lifestyle advice and assistance to help incorporate positive health habits into your everyday. Happy Spinal Health Week, from Dr’s Kristian, Bridget, Bethany, Rhiannon and all the team at the Ballarat and District Chiropractic Centre. We hope to see you at our new multi-disciplinary clinic in Soldiers Hill. Our Allied Healthcare team are looking forward to meeting you and helping you get the most out of your spine! References 1.
