This year more than ever routines have been challenged; not only are we coming out of winter, but our usual exercise routines have been interrupted by Covid-19. This has made it particularly hard to keep active and mobile for the many of us that like routine. We would like to help out by highlighting how far many of our local businesses have gone to keep us moving and talk about all the other things we can be doing to keep active!
Here are our top 8 tips to Spring back into Action (Starting with some of the easier ones, heading into the more fitness challenging ones) 1 – Join us for Step-tember. Simply walking is the first ‘step’ to getting back into activity. This great cause also raises money for those with Cerebral Palsy. 2 – Take advantage of the HUGE numbers of zoom fitness classes on offer at the moment, or when it starts again, check out our friends at the Ballarat Community Health Group. They have some amazing classes aimed at all age groups, we highly recommend the Tai Chi. 3 – Not a huge fan of face masks? Go for a run. Couch to 5k is a great program for beginners to intermediates. Nothing required but some shoes and a can-do attitude! 4 – Always wanted to try yoga or pilates? Worried about going into a class? Try it from home with Ballarat's Absolute Yoga! 5 – TiffXO has put out a free 3 month version of her program. It’s a tiny bit fiddly to get registered for free, but do some googling! Well worth it. Combines exercise, good nutrition (not calorie counting!) and mindfulness, all the things we should spend more time focusing on! 6 – Something Bridget + Kristian (and more recently our amazingly talented naturopathic practitioner, Ken Robinson) have been loving is ballroom dancing. Very difficult to do with social distancing in mind, but the wonderful people at the Ballarat Dance Studio have been doing zoom classes. Heaps of fun. 7 – Missing the gym? Try setting yourself some goals with bodyweight exercises. How many push-ups, burpees and jump squats can you do in a minute? How long can you hold a plank for? 8 – Or have you REALLY been missing the gym? Remember 1 on 1 PT’s are available in stage 3 restrictions (outdoors only) and many of our favourite gyms in Ballarat are doing zoom bootcamps as well. All of the above activities are great ways to be active, whether you’re aiming to just get off the couch for the first time since March or if you’re aiming for the next level. If you think we should add something to the list (or if you want to add your local business to the list!) get in contact with us, we would love to hear from you.
